Today, 2 March 2008, marks the 40th birthday for the latest actor to portray James Bond 007 in the official series—Daniel Craig.

First announced to the world as the newest James Bond in October 2005, Craig went on to star in Casino Royale, the 21st official film in the series. Opening worldwide in November 2006, Casino Royale was a hit with 007 fans and critics alike. The film also was a phenomenal success at the box office with a worldwide total of $594 million—the highest for the series yet.

Presently, Craig is currently involved in the filming of the 22nd instalment of the series, Quantum of Solace.

Directed by Marc Forster and featuring a cast that includes Mathieu Amalric, Olga Kurylenko, Anatole Taubman, Gemma Arterton, Joaquín Cosio, Dame Judi Dench, Jesper Christensen, Giancarlo Giannini, and Jeffrey Wright, Quantum of Solace is scheduled to open worldwide in November 2008.

Locations for the film include Panama, Peru, Chile, Italy, Austria and the UK.

Craig recently held an early birthday party along with over 300 guests, including cast and crew members from the Bond production, at the Melia Panama Canal hotel in the city of Colòn.
