The author of that piece, Jon Burlingame, is a big Bond fan. He drove me and another Bond friend to the Goldfinger screening at the Academy Awards Theatre back during the 1994 Bond convention in LA. He knows his stuff.

MGM is certainly flexing their muscles - and I didn't realize there was so much conflict about DAD.

Thanks again [dark] for the tip-off and your thread here smile.gif

So - nothing really exciting except the fact that despite all bad rumours they are still planning for November 2005.

Maybe we can squeeze Chris Walken into the movie somewhere, so no matter what else about the movie, at least we can have a highly amusing performance to look forward to.

With the other Bond feature (thanks once more to [dark] who put it up in Quick News) I think that Variety now has picked up the topic. Which normally means, something is really going on in Hollywood.

Then again, I remind on Variety posting "Beyond The Ice" as Bond 20 Title when MGM had denied it 20 times already.

QUOTE (doublenoughtspy @ 20 April 2004 - 15:12)
The author of that piece, Jon Burlingame, is a big Bond fan.  He drove me and another Bond friend to the Goldfinger screening at the Academy Awards Theatre back during the 1994 Bond convention in LA.  He knows his stuff.

With the other Bond feature (thanks once more to [dark] who put it up in Quick News) I think that Variety now has picked up the topic. Which normally means, something is really going on in Hollywood.

What isn't mentioned is that the Chris McGurk article appears in a 70 page special Variety supplement on '80 years MGM'. Obviously in a MGM tribute publication like this Bond couldn't really be absent, so MGM sort of had to make a statement on the present status of Bond21. And to be honest... McGurk doesn't really give any real scoops to Variety: nothing spectacular is really confirmed or denied at this moment...it's all business as usual. Interestingly in the index, Variety gives the following short description of the article on Bond: "The next Bond will be Pierce Brosnan's last as 007, which leaves some big shoes to fill" (in the article itself it's nowhere claimed that Brosnan will return for sure...).
In the same magazine there is also a nice full page advert in which EON and Danjaq congratulate MGM on turning 80, and there's another article on who would be a worthy successor for Brosnan (experts like Brett Ratner, Danny Biederman and Steve Rubin give their view, and names such as Hugh Jackman, Hugh Grant, Brosnan and Carson Kressley pop up).

The Vice Chairman of MGM has said:

1. There is no 007 currently attached to Bond 21.

2. Decisions as to who will be the director and star will be made in the next few months.

GREAT work [dark]! And a nicely written news article, btw. smile.gif
