Great interview so far, John Cox! As for a special issue devoted to LTK, I think Graham did such a good job covering the film before, during, and after its release that there's no need for one.

I really enjoyed reading this interview. I don't know very much at all about this Mr. Rye, but he seems to really speak his mind (making this all the more interesting to read. Looking forward to the second half. ![]() |

Splendid; what an entertaining chap. Nice open questions, marvellously free-flowing answers. Top stuff for a rainy day (it's summer here).

Not sure about the supposed significance of animosity between Graham and EON: 007 magazine always seems to have plenty of film stills to publish and, hell, I've never been invited onto the set of a new Bond movie or to a premiere.
Seriously, I have been reading the output of the JBIFC/JBFC - call it what you will - since 1981 and cannot say I have ever noticed Graham being critical - certianly not in the way as any of the poster on THIS board - of EON. Graham defends Brozza as Bond to the hilt: what more do EON want? He openly crictises Connery in NSNA. Conversely, surely EON must be confident that TSWLM is a far better film than Graham's championing of the turgid YOLT. Never mind Diamonds. Sure, 007 magazine has been anti the later Roger movies at the time of their publication and with justification: in 007 #46 there are shots of Rog in FYEO onwards and he looks knackered and very carefully photographed through A LOT of gauze! And yet in a recent 007 magazine, Graham champions Pierce for another couple of films: preseumably photographic techniques have improved. |

Very much enjoyed reading that, zen. Nice to see you not holding back on the questions, with Mr. Rye not holding back on the answers.

Top job.
Like a lot of the jobs associated with the Bond world, writing, filming, fan elements, they are all to a tee, a thankless role. Too much legacy, too many opinions. ![]() ________________________________________________

QUOTE(zencat @ 6 July 2005 - 11:31) Thanks all. Graham really is a terrific interview subject. Forthcoming and candid with great stories. More coming in part 2. John, Fantastic interview, so far. Great questions and answers makes this piece facinating to read. One gets some insight on the process of this magazine. I never thought that Graham was doing this full time. I can remember there was a long period where the magazine did not come out for a year or more and that some subscribers were upset over the delay. One must realize that finding OO7 material to fill a magazine when websites have covered everything from Bond 21 to Sean Connery's shoe size can be quite dauntless. Looking forward to Part 2. ![]() |

As for a special issue devoted to LTK, I think Graham did such a good job covering the film before, during, and after its release that there's no need for one. Excellent point. In fact, when I need my LTK fix, I tend to pluck down off the shelf issues 18 - 21. Issue 19 really is almost a LTK Special. And it also has a terrific photo spread of TLD. If you're a Dalton fan, Issue 19 is a must buy. ![]() |

Excellent interview John. I was pleased that Graham picked two issues as his favorites that I actually own. I disagree with the assessment of Never Say Never Again in the NSNA/CR issue so I would hardly call it the definitive work on the movie, but it was fun to see some stills I had never seen before.
I would love to see a special on For Your Eyes Only. ![]() ![]() Robert Brown was Admiral Hargreaves in TSWLM, OP, AVTAK, TLD and LTK damnit Enforcer, Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Roger Moore Proud defender of Barbara Bach, Carole Bouquet, Barbara Carrera, Maryam D'Abo, A View to a Kill, Never Say Never Again and The Spy Who Loved Me. |
