Nine fan stories by nine authors celebrating the Centenary of Ian Fleming

Maybe this one should have been in the Fan Fiction section and youre welcome to move it there in case...

Anyway I sat here thinking that there are many talanted writers here at CBN. My thought was, could it be possible to make a serious tribute to Ian Fleming in form of a CBn Centenary Short story Collection?

Lets say like this:
  • A collection of 6-7 short storys by different fan fiction writers.
  • A "board" of members from CBN that makes the final selecton of the contributions.
  • Contributions should not have published beforeand kept secretly until publishing date.
  • The storys should be set between Golden Gun and Colonel Sun or maybe right after CS for example.
  • Make it available here at CBN in may 2008, downloadable in PDF. Maybe wiht a cover by Evan Willnow (maybe in the style of his Per fine ounce cover).
  • The winning contributors gets a copy of the real Centenary novel, or maybe...a printed copy of the CBN Centenary collection if possible.
Is this possible to do? It's not a "commercial product" just a tribute of pure fan fiction through CBN. Is this a good idea for the "board of CBN" to start?

PS. That was my 100. DS.

I’d be up for it if someone wants to organise it.

As would I. Any thoughts on a word count? No more than 5,000 per story perhaps? (To keep the collection from being too massive...)

I'm afraid I'm not qualified but I thought it was a good idea too. I don't have enough knowledge in the english language to judge because it's not my first language. So someone with great skill in editing and in english should take on this mission.

It's about a year left but it might be time to start if...well if it's gonna be something.

Is there someone up for the challenge to arrange this? Finding writers is not a problem I guess.

Well, the dice is cast... wink.gif

Splendid idea.

I am happy to do the gathering and sorting and given the evident talent on display round these parts, I know that it will be a pleasure.

Working back from the publication deadline of May 28, 2008, if any demands are to be met of Evan's time then we need a realistic deadline that I will have to discuss with him, particularly (without writing for him) if an element of a story inspires cover art, which will obviously need time to devise and design.

Accordingly, at present, assume a working deadline of February 29 2008. I will work out a way of people getting their stuff to me but if these are to be a "surprise" I suppose there has to be a direction that the stories don't appear elsewhere on CBn (ie in the fan fiction place).

My thought was that the contributions will be exclusive for this purpose, yes.

Ahhhh...

But if JIM is doing the collecting, does that mean that his authorial voice would potentially not be represented? That would be a loss for all of us. If we are going to do something like this, a tribute, that is, then our best quills should have the opportunity to take a dip in the ol' ink pool if their muse so dictates.

And hopefully that will include that Thomas Clink fellow’s quill.

My suggestion, rather than let Jim run the whole shebang on his ownsome, form a panel of 4 to 6 to read the entries and edit the thing. That'll keep each person's workload down and allow editors to enter their own pieces.

Perhaps entries should be anonymous? Although that might be a bit pointless as many on here have very distinctive styles.

A panel would be fine to read the stories, choose authors and such — but I think a single editor would be best. And no one does it better than Jim.

Perhaps another person should deal with continuity. I would love if all of these stories had their own flares but worked together.
